What does this Foundations Course Teach?
A comprehensive curriculum designed to build the foundations of a life grounded in Islamic principles
This Islamic Theology (Iman/Aqidah) module will introduce students to the discipline Islamic theology (Aqidah) through a well-known traditional text, a poem composed by Imam Laqqani (R), titled Jawharat al-Tawhid which summarizes the core beliefs of The Sunni Orthodoxy. Students will explore foundational concepts such as the attributes of Allah, the nature of faith, divine decree, and prophethood as well as debunking modern movements.
This Fiqh module offers students a foundational yet thorough study of Islamic jurisprudence (fiqh) through the classical Hanafi manual Ascent to Felicity by Imam Shurunbulali. Students will begin by exploring the the structure of Islamic legal rulings, and the sources of Islamic law, with a focus on the Hanafi school. Then students will moves into detailed chapters covering ṭahārah, ṣalāh, ṣawm, zakāh, ḥajj, and ritual sacrifice.
This Hadith module will be an in-depth study of al-Arbaʿīn al-Nawawiyyah (The 40 Hadith of Imam al-Nawawi) plus the additional hadiths Ibn Rajab al-Ḥanbalī mentions in Jāmiʿ al-ʿUlūm wal-Ḥikam. Through a careful reading of each hadith and guided discussions students will gain clarity on the essential principles of Islamic belief, practice, law, ethics, and spiritual refinement, all while building familiarity with the language, tone, and legacy of prophetic speech.
The Tajweed module is designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the rules Quranic Recitation. Utilizing the works of renowned scholars Sh. Hafs al-Gazzi and Sh. Ayman Suwayd, the course combines both theory and practice. Students will learn the pronunciation, articulation, and the proper application of Tajweed rules to ensure accurate recitation. This course will guide you through mastering the art of Tajweed with clarity and precision.
The Tafsir module offers students a deep dive into the interpretation of the Qur'an, utilizing a range of classical works to draw meaningful lessons and insights. The course begins with an introduction to the sciences of the Qur'an, and then explores the Tafsir of Surah Al-Fatihah, followed by an in-depth study of the 30th Juz. This course equips students with the tools to gain a richer and more comprehensive understanding of the Qur'an's timeless guidance.
The Arabic module is a rigorous program aimed at taking students from a basic understanding of Quranic reading to an intermediate level of fluency in reading, composing, conversing, and listening. The course starts with foundational vocabulary needed to immediately understand Arabic. As students progress, they will gain the skills to engage confidently with Arabic texts ultimately enhancing their ability to understand the Qur'an.
The Foundations Schedule
Timings remain the same for both fall and spring term but courses alternate.
We follow the Gwinnett County Public School Calendar with additional breaks for Eid.

Qualified, Experienced, and Expert Instructors
Rumsha Karim studied Islamic Sciences and gained her Masters from Jamia Ayesha Siddiqua, Karachi, Pakistan and her Bachelors in Information Technology from KSU. She has been teaching classes, workshops, and delivering lectures related to Arabic and the various Islamic disciplines to students of all age groups, including Islamic Schools, Masajid, and Universities.
Faiza Aamer is a graduate of the Islamic Institute of Atlanta, where she earned her Alimiya degree in Islamic Studies. She is currently pursuing further studies in Fiqh and Iftā'. Her teaching style emphasizes critical thinking and practical application of Islamic principles in daily life.
